Homeless People Encounter the Christ
The US tabloid newspaper The Sun reported on the experiences of several homeless people in the US who claimed to have had encounters with the Christ.
Among the experiences reported:
Alejandro Diaz, a 67-year-old man from Miami with cancer, had "lost his faith in God when doctors told him he had less than a month to live." One evening Diaz was searching through a restaurant dustbin for food when, he said, "a soft-spoken man tapped me on the shoulder. I thought he, too, was homeless so I offered him half of the bread crust I had fished from the trash. He smiled and took my hand. It was a feeling like none other - a kind of comforting warmth that oozed through my body. For the first time in years I felt happy to be alive. Tears welled in my eyes and I blurted out to this stranger: 'I don't want to die! Please help me!' We kneeled and prayed right there among the cockroaches and rotting food. My new friend, of course, was none other than Jesus. It didn't surprise me when the doctor at the free clinic told me my cancer had vanished." Diaz said he has met a number of other homeless people in South Florida with similar experiences. He now holds daily prayer sessions on a street corner in Miami.
"What you remember most is his eyes," said Tina Forsch of Los Angeles. Forsch was on the street with her three children because their father had left with another woman. "I was begging for food and change," she said, "and was so desperate I even considered selling my body. I saw this guy coming down the street and thought to myself: 'He won't hurt me. He looks too kind.' Before I could utter a word, he put his hand on my shoulder and said: 'Your body is a temple given you by God ... if you desecrate this temple, you are turning your back on the one who cares and can lead you to the promised land. He held me as I cried like a baby. When my tears stopped, I felt my soul had been cleansed." Forsch accepted a $50 bill from the man before he revealed his identity. He urged her to place the children in a safe place. Forsch donated the cash to a church where she now works as a housekeeper.
Sylvia Dennison, suffering from senility, wandered into a dangerous neighbourhood of Chicago. She was surrounded by several young men, but the would-be attackers were driven off by a flash of flame and searing heat. When the smoke cleared, "Jesus guides Sylvia to a shelter."
John and Mary Donaldson of Pennsylvania became homeless after their uninsured home burned down. A few days later Mary died. John Donaldson became so desperate for money to give his wife a proper burial, he planned to rob a bank. But, according to the article: "He's met at the door [of the bank] by Jesus who walks him to a park bench where they chat for hours." John vows to continue on with his life, and change his ways for the better. Money from an anonymous donor pays for his wife's service. (Source: The Sun, USA)

"I AM coming to you"
Pentecost Miracle at St John's Church of Glastonbury
Towards the end of the main Sunday Eucharist on the Feast of Pentecost 1993, five members of the congregation seated in different parts of the church began to 'speak in tongues'. This had never happened before in the church and none of the individuals concerned were familiar with this experience. As far as is known all were regular members of the congregation. One of the men who 'spoke in tongues' in particular was very disturbed and upset by the totally involuntary nature of the experience. At the end of the service, each separately and without any contact with the other speakers was asked to write down the meaning of the words that had been 'placed in their mouths'. In all respects, they were identical apart from slight errors in spelling.
The text read as follows:
I AM equipping you,
I AM healing you,
I AM leading you, but
UNLESS you draw near to Me I cannot feed you.
UNLESS you come to Me, I cannot heal you.
UNLESS you empty yourself, I cannot fill you.
My people, there is still hardness in your hearts; hardness from anger, hardness caused by putting yourself in My rightful place.
REPENT of this hardness.
TURN to Me again and live.
COME that I may renew you in body, mind and spirit.
COME to Me that I may heal you.
COME to Me that I may equip you that I may send you out by the Power of My Spirit to RELEASE those bound by fear, to PROCLAIM forgiveness and to SHOW love to all people.
My children, I AM coming to you.

"The Search for Mary"
Time Magazine's 1991 year-end cover story, seriously examines the "grass-roots revival of faith in the Virgin ... taking place world-wide," including the many "claimed sightings of the Virgin, from Yugoslavia to Colorado, in the past few years." The article reports on the increasing number of people visiting Marian pilgrimage sites around the world: Lourdes, France; Fatima, Portugal; Knock, Ireland; Czestochowa; Poland; and Emmitsburg, Maryland. But it says that the "boom at such long-established sites is almost overshadowed by the cult of the Virgin that has developed through new reports of her personal appearances." Medjugorje is discussed, as are other reported visitations: in Cuapa, a small town in Nicaragua, in 1980 (President Violeta Chamorro is reportedly a firm believer in the appearances); in the Ukraine in 1987; and more recently in Denver, Colorado, and Santa Ana, California.
The article also refers to Pope John Paul II's devotion to Mary. The Pope believes that the Virgin Mary personally interceded to spare his life during an assassination attempt in 1981, and that, in accordance with the Fatima prophecies of 1917, Mary brought an end to Communism throughout Europe. The article further states that the Virgin Mary's renewed popularity throughout the world has spawned new interpretations of her life and works which challenge traditional notions such as the Immaculate Conception.
The photo ( above left ), was taken by a woman from New Jersey while on holiday in Arizona. She had asked her husband to stop their car when, driving through the desert, she saw a distinctive bush covered with white flowers. Her husband did not see the flowers. On the picture they cannot be seen either, but in their place is the unmistakable image of the Madonna.

Sacred Images on Rose Petals
Since 1991, a young Filipino man, Carmelo Cortez, has had numerous experiences of the Madonna and is able to manifest detailed images of the Christ, Mary, and others onto rose petals. Healings have also been associated with these phenomena.
In June 1991, Cortez, age 21, was living in a squatters' area in San Francisco Del Monte in Quezon City. He was given a picture of the Madonna, which he placed on an altar. The following night he heard a soft voice and the sound of beautiful music. Cortez followed the voice and found it was emanating from the picture. The Madonna was shedding tears of blood and the baby Jesus in the altar appeared to be catching the tears with one hand. The picture was later placed on a church altar, and a relative of Cortez was healed of a fever.
Two days later, Cortez said he was again awakened by beautiful music, and the Madonna began giving him messages. Since that time, Cortez has seen and talked to the Madonna more than 100 times.
Other miracles have accompanied these manifestations. Columnist Christine Dayrit reported on one particular miracle which others have experienced as well - sacred images appearing on rose petals.
"He [Cortez] took a flower from a vase of fresh white roses which we had brought. He then took the petals from the stalk by removing the sepal. One by one, Carmelo placed a petal on our shoulders as we said our prayers ... After a few moments, we were asked to take a look at the petals. To our astonishment, what were originally plain white rose petals had now on them the image of the crucified Christ." Others present "cried in exultation" as images of the Madonna, the Sacred Heart, Mother and Child, St Joseph and Child, St Francis of Assisi, and many others, appeared on their petals.
Many people have reported being healed of various ailments by Cortez. Says Cortez: "It is not I who heals you of whatever physical or emotional ailment you have. It is Jesus through the intercession of the Madonna. I am just an instrument." ( Source: Signs of Our Times, USA; reported in Share International, October 1996 )
